Giving a boost to his candidacy for Shelby County sheriff, candidate Danny Green took his campaign to the voters at a couple of public venues over the weekend.
Green, who has extensive experience in law enforcement, took time to visit with voters in Tenaha and Joaquin on Saturday. Green set up in each town to give county residents a chance to talk with him and discuss issues that affect the county and the sheriff’s office in particular.
One issue that Green feels needs addressing is communication among the county’s law enforcement agencies.
“Everybody is going in different directions. We’ve got to get together and it all starts with the sheriff’s office,” he asserted.
If elected, Green has plans to invite all the various agencies to monthly meetings, “where we can all get together and talk about what’s going on,” he said.
Green noted that he would re-equip and train sheriff’s deputies to be able to enforce traffic laws in the county, as well.
“We’re going to work traffic, especially in school zones. We’re going to put radar back in the cars,” he said.
Green’s background in law enforcement began after he completed the police academy at Lamar University in Beaumont, followed by two years as a reserve deputy in Jefferson County before coming to the Shelby County area.
He started working for the Shelby County Sheriff’s office during the administration of Carl Shofner. His service there continued under James Moore, when he served as the Criminal Investigation Division supervisor and later as chief deputy. He has also served as an investigator for the Shelby County District Attorney’s office.
“I’ve done or supervised every job there is up there,” Green stated. “I’m not going in blind, I know the commissioners and they know me. I know how things work. If anyone doesn’t know me they can ask anybody in law enforcement about me.”
